Meet our School Counselor, Mr. John KorsoConozca a Nuestro Consejero Escolar, el Sr. John Korso

Gonzalez Child Center is excited and honored to introduce our Jaybird family to our School Counselor, Mr. John Korso! This may be his first year as a Jaybird counselor but he’s not new to the role, as this is his 9th year as a school counselor, with the last four years being at East Aurora High School. When the need arose and there was an opening for the Adventure Program at GCC, John came to become a Jaybird. Mr. Korso said, “It was a blessing in disguise because I enjoy working with elementary students, and I have loved getting to know our students, especially with the opportunity to know each student due to our school size.”

John enjoys building strong relationships with his fellow students, staff and our Jaybird parents. Although each day may be a little different for a counselor, John loves the collaborative approach of his role in helping our students be successful learners. 

Mr. Korso helps our students with their social-emotional needs by meeting with them individually, in small groups, or as entire classrooms. He assists students in problem solving and finding answers to their own questions. Some of the skills and issues he assists our students with can include but are not limited to peer relations, managing anger, controlling behavior, how to be a kind friend and classmate to others, accepting mistakes, managing stress, and bullying, to name a few. He can also assist parents with any outside resources or information that might be needed. 

Not only is John such an essential part of the Gonzalez family but he plays an essential part in the future of our students. That includes big goals for our Jaybirds! John says, “I work with all students to help them understand and manage their own feelings, behaviors and challenges. It is my goal that all students develop the strategies and skills needed to do that so that each student can reach their full potential in the school environment and beyond.” 

All in all, Gonzalez is proud to have added Mr. John Korso to the Gonzalez family!

¡Gonzalez Child Center está emocionado y honrado de presentar a nuestra familia Jaybird a nuestro consejero escolar, el Sr. John Korso! Este puede ser su primer año como consejero de Jaybird, pero no es nuevo en el papel, ya que este es su 9º año como consejero escolar, con los últimos cuatro años en East Aurora High School. Cuando surgió la necesidad y hubo una vacante para el Programa de Aventura en GCC, John llegó a convertirse en un Jaybird. El Sr. Korso dijo: “Fue una bendición disfrazada porque disfruto trabajar con estudiantes de primaria, y me ha encantado conocer a nuestros estudiantes, especialmente con la oportunidad de conocer a cada estudiante debido al tamaño de nuestra escuela”.

John disfruta construyendo relaciones sólidas con sus compañeros estudiantes, el personal y nuestros padres de Jaybird. Aunque cada día puede ser un poco diferente para un consejero, a John le encanta el enfoque colaborativo de su papel en ayudar a nuestros estudiantes a ser aprendices exitosos. 

El Sr. Korso ayuda a nuestros estudiantes con sus necesidades socioemocionales reuniéndose con ellos individualmente, en grupos pequeños o como aulas completas. Ayuda a los estudiantes a resolver problemas y encontrar respuestas a sus propias preguntas. Algunas de las habilidades y problemas pueden incluir, entre otros, las relaciones con los compañeros, el manejo de la ira, el control del comportamiento, cómo ser un amigo amable y compañero de clase con los demás, aceptar errores, manejar el estrés y la intimidación, por nombrar algunos. También puede ayudar a los padres con cualquier recurso externo o información que pueda ser necesaria. 

John no solo es una parte esencial de la familia González, sino que juega un papel esencial en el futuro de nuestros estudiantes. ¡Eso incluye grandes objetivos para nuestros Jaybirds! John dice: “Trabajo con todos los estudiantes para ayudarlos a comprender y manejar sus propios sentimientos, comportamientos y desafíos. Mi objetivo es que todos los estudiantes desarrollen las estrategias y habilidades necesarias para hacer eso para que cada estudiante pueda alcanzar su máximo potencial en el entorno escolar y más allá”.

Con todo, González se enorgullece de haber agregado al Sr. John Korso a la familia González!
